Magazine-style scatter layout for your homepage. Overlapping images, angles, and intentional white space.
Build with Canvas — freeYour homepage is the first thing visitors see, and most Shopify homepages look the same: a hero banner, a product grid, a testimonial slider. An editorial homepage layout breaks that pattern entirely. Instead of rigid sections stacked top-to-bottom, you scatter images across the page at angles, with overlapping edges and intentional white space. The result feels like opening a magazine rather than landing on a store. This layout works especially well for lifestyle brands, fashion labels, and anyone whose brand identity is rooted in visual storytelling. Visitors stay longer because the page invites exploration rather than scrolling.
Create a new canvas
Open Canvas in your Shopify admin. Click Create canvas, name it, and choose the canvas mode that matches this layout type.
Add your images
Upload images or pull from your Shopify Files library. Drag them onto the canvas to start building your layout.
Arrange and scatter
Drag images to position them. Use rotation, sizing, and opacity controls to create depth. Overlap images intentionally for an editorial feel.
Set hover effects and links
Select each image block and choose a hover mode (Ghost, Lift, Shop, or Reveal). Add link destinations to make images clickable.
Publish to your store
Click Publish to push the layout live. Add the Canvas app block to your theme once — all future updates publish instantly.
For editorial homepages, Ghost and Lift work best. Ghost adds a subtle white overlay on hover, keeping the editorial feel clean. Lift gives images a slight rise and shadow, creating physical depth. If any images link to products, Shop mode slides up a product card.
